The Walking Dead Recap

The Walking Dead
“The Suicide King”

The Walking Dead kicks off the second part of the third season right where it left off with Daryl Dixon facing off against his brother Merle in the Woodbury Arena. And although I doubt anybody thought one of the Dixon brothers would die tonight, it set up another attack by Rick and The Grimes Gang on Woodbury, adding more fuel to the Governor’s one-eyed fire. At the prison, Carl, Herschel, Herschel’s hot daughter, Axel and Carol deal with the four new visitors including Tyreese, offering small talk and back-story. This is the slowest part of the episode, but creators must introduce characters and develop motives within the small group.
Rick and The Grimes Gang returns to a beaten Glen with Merle and all hell breaks loose as Daryl decides to leave the group and join forces with his brother. It’s a risky move separating a fan favorite like Daryl from the main narrative, but I can only assume the Dixons will be picked up by the Governor. Or maybe the producers have come up with the greatest spinoff in the history of spinoffs — "The Walking Dixons" — following two badass brothers wreaking havoc across a zombie-infested wasteland. If that’s the case, count me in!
While the people of Woodbury are in panic mode trying to leave the secure town, a few walkers get in the perimeter and attack a citizen. Andrea ultimately calms everyone down providing her a purpose in the town and a tough decision later in the season when she reunites with The Grimes Gang.
And of course we have Rick going crazy at the end of the episode. The poor guy has taken the burden for all of the groups problems and as he slowly continues to crack, it’ll be interesting to see how long everyone continues to follow. The problem is, without Daryl in the group, who becomes the leader? Glenn? Herschel? Carl?  I guess only time will tell.

Random Thoughts

Is Beth making a move for the Queen Bee spot? She’s an obvious choice to take care of the baby, but how about that smooch she laid on Rick when he returned? At least she knows who the dominant male is.

And speaking of romance, are Carol and Axel falling in love?

Merle called Michonne his “Nubian Queen.” Some people might hate Merle, but I love that racist son of a bitch.

I like how the Governor is pissed at himself for cuddling the residences of Woodbury - “These people have had it too good. Picnics and barbecues. That ends now.”

Tyreese explains the state of the world in one sentence – “The longer you stay out there, the less human you become.”

What did you guys think of the episode?
